Mind Map
Use Mind Maps to organize your thoughts for your next writing project! Mind Maps are typically used to visualize a complex idea and break it down into its components. This gamified version draws from a theatrical scriptwriting practice, where the player-playwright (or author of any kind of story) is called to weave their narrative around a single character. This is achieved by brainstorming questions and ideas for seven categories that make up the narrative structure (Who, What, Where, When, Why, How, Other) and compiling them into one page. If you are low on brain juice, do not fret! You can use this game-tool to generate Mind Map profiles for random characters with pre-built parameters, providing opportunities for new idea generation and fun storytelling prompts.
Keyboard needed only. Further instructions provided in-game.

It's interesting seeing new ideas that stretch the boundaries of what makes a game... well a game. This feels very similarly to a mad-libs, however I'm not specifically being asked for specific types of words. Could a digital mad-lib be an evolution of your game?
Very cool! I like how I could fill things out for my OC, this is genuinely a very helpful tool. The music adds another layer of mystery; as for the text, bolding the text against the paper/changing green color bg (maybe text white) could help with reading!
I really like this concept! It's honestly really efficient and can be used for other purposes. It's a fun interactive way to get a person's game going. I also like that there is a random generated one because it helps to get a sense of the type of structure that a person could do.
I ended up making a mind map for Mario the Plumber lol. But I really like the cohesiveness of the program, especially to write down various aspects of a narrative. I do wonder if there was perhaps a way to keep the music to endlessly loop, rather than abrupt start/stop when you change screens.
The readability of the Random Character Mind Map is a bit difficult, but as someone said earlier, changing the font for the "WHO / WHAT / WHERE / etc." might be a good solution if the text is already bolded.
This game had reminded me of MMM by SeaCabel (seacabel.itch.io/mmm), even before I had played that one, with its use of randomly generated text that occurs through performing an input. I appreciate how you allow for the players to do this manually as you essentially allow them to have their own creative process. The use of the pen and paper aesthetic works super well for how the game revolves around creating your own mind map, although it is difficult to read the text sometimes because of the color and size of the font.
This game really gave me the feeling of creating a character card from a board game, it was both fun and super practical! Having this kind of “mind map” for a character’s setup made it really easy to develop the character.
I think it’s really smart that because you don’t have too many images, you can do a lot more with the text. I created a Mind Map for a character from Steven Universe, which was pretty fun! It reminds me of a structural guide from a creating writing book in Stephanie’s Narrative Game Design
I like how very practical this game can be when brainstorming creative ideas for stories and other fiction! It can either help you note down what ideas you want to pursue or generate inspiration through the random character mind map generator.
This is an impressive coding feat with the ability to store so many strings as well as creating a text box where the person can input words they choose. I would suggest changing the background for the instructions so that the text is more legible. You could probably do this my blurring the image in photoshop or changing the color of the font as well.
Starting an idea for a character can sometimes be the hardest part, so having a mind map generator like this can be really useful. As another comment said, this could be useful in making fleshed out DND characters when trying to start from scratch.
love this concept, wonder if a visual map of the character/story sheet could be added in future versions? to really sell the map in mind map :)
Yup, that is the plan for future iterations. It'd basically be text bubbles with the character name in the center, and the other categories expanding outwards around it
Interesting concept for a game. It feels like a character sheet for something like DnD. I’m also surprised by the random character generator, I wonder how big of a word bank you needed to pull that off. I can definitely see someone using this project as a stepping stone for their character design/story.
I love the design of building a story on my own~And the instructions are very direct and easy to follow. The only thing I suggest is try to make the game more interesting? Like give some limited sets at the beginning.
As a creative, I always find myself lost in some during some part of the creative process—honestly it’s inevitable. It’s really interesting having a game that helps combats this and revive inspiration in its own way
This game used a special writing method for the player to create their own story. This is a very unique game since I didn't see any typing elements in games before.
This game has a fun use for letting the player type onto the screen, making it useful for documenting/creating a mind map for a character! It could genuinely be used to help someone develop a character! Being able to crest a random character also helps you think of what kinda things you can write for your own character.
I feel that the style of writing my own character and story reminds me of those poem generators that were made in France. I’m stitching my own story that only I know about and others do the same thing.
I like the 1700s quill aesthetic, makes me feel like Shakespeare. I’m curious how you managed to randomize the different who, what, where’s, I clicked randomize a bunch of times and I didn’t notice repetition, so that’s cool!
Thanks! Most of the categories have 100 pre-programmed answers, and the rest have 50. So,there is still a chance that you'll get repeats, but it doesn't happen very often.
I honestly feel like the option to write your own mind map feels like a separate game to the random generator. I think that's great!
Aesthetic is top-notch! I like the free type element of it and I'm curious how you wrote the script for that? It was a lil difficult to read the instructions in-game because the font was small and thin. Perhaps bolding it would make it more accessible? Otherwise, this is a really cool game.
Thank you! Sadly, the instructions text is already bolded. A different fond is needed, but I struggled to find one that would balance the aesthetics and the functionality/visibility of the text throughout all my scenes.
This is a great, simple game for helping generate and organize ideas. I can easily see the random character map option as a great set of writing prompts. The writing aesthetic theme can make the words a little hard to read, but I love all the crinkled paper and quills.
